Missing truck found in Illinois with handgun stolen from Missouri

Region Filler

A maintenance truck stolen from a Bloomington health care facility was found Monday abandoned in Illinois along with a handgun stolen from St. Louis.

Police in Caseyville, Illinois, originally contacted Chosen Consulting LLC, which owns Bloomington Nursing and Rehab, to say they’d found the stolen vehicle and recommended the company report it to local police, Bloomington Police Department Detective Sgt. Dana Cole said.

Management at Bloomington Nursing and Rehab did not know the truck had been stolen and had not reported it as such, Cole said. The truck was used for maintenance, but after the maintenance operator quit, the truck was left in the facility’s parking lot. It may have been left unlocked with keys in the ignition. Facility managers said they last saw the truck Dec. 23.

Caseyville police also found the handgun in the cab of the truck. The truck’s license plates were missing and are still listed as being stolen. The case is technically still active in Bloomington, but police have no leads, Cole said.
