After pitching a no-hitter against UAB on Feb. 24 and recording a 3-1 record at the Samford/UAB Tournament, freshman pitcher Emily Goodin was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week Monday afternoon.
Goodin pitched a total of 16 innings in four games this past weekend and registered a 0.88 ERA. She allowed just two earned runs and seven hits during the tournament.
The no-hitter came in the second start of Goodin’s career with only two UAB batters reaching base in the 7-0 IU win. It also was the first complete game and the first shutout for Goodin at the college level.
Goodin enrolled early at IU in January after graduating from Mater Dei High School in Evansville, Indiana in December. Her record now sits at 4-3 with a 2.42 ERA in 37 and two thirds innings pitched for IU this season.
This is IU’s first Big Ten honor of the season. Last year, then-freshmen pitchers Tara Trainer and Josie Wood earned a combined four Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards.
