IU men's tennis player named Big Ten Athlete of the Week

SPIUMT

IU junior Raheel Manji was named Big Ten’s Athlete of the Week after winning both of his matchups against Princeton.

In singles, he won at position one in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, and in doubles played with junior Keivon Tabrizi to beat his opponents 6-4.

So far this season Manji is 3-1 in singles and 5-0 in doubles.

“It means a lot to be recognized by such a prestigious conference like the Big Ten for my play,” Manji said in an IU Athletics release. “It is a great indicator of the work and care, myself and my teammates have put in, as well as the great coaching, preparation and thought, coach Wurtzman and assistant coach Mike Murray have put forward. I am very excited to see the progression of the team this season.”

This is the first time in his career as a Hoosier that Manji has received a weekly award.

Manji is the first Hoosier since Sam Monette to receive the award on Feb. 2, 2016.

Manji and IU will be facing Louisville in their fifth match in a row Wednesday at the IU Tennis Center.
