Police arrested a Bloomington man Wednesday after he allegedly broke into a storage unit, stole a motorcycle and sold it.
Michael Ray, 36, is charged with felonies for burglary and automobile theft.
The theft was initially reported Monday, when the owner of a storage unit at All American Storage at 2600 S. Henderson St. reported the padlock had been removed from the unit and a 2001 Harley-Davidson had been stolen from inside, Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Ryan Pedigo said.
Police obtained security video from the storage company. The footage showed one vehicle entering the lot several times. At about 7:15 a.m. Sunday, the video showed the vehicle, this time pulling a trailer, enter the lot again. The driver of the vehicle could be seen loading the motorcycle into the trailer and leaving.
The manager of All American Storage identified the vehicle as belonging to Ray, who also has a storage unit in the vicinity.
A detective located Ray on Wednesday evening. During an interview, Ray admitted to police he’d broken the lock, seen the motorcycle, returned with his trailer and stolen the motorcycle.
He then sold the motorcycle for $700, Pedigo said. He said he didn’t know where the motorcycle is now.
Ray was arrested and taken to the Monroe County Correctional Center, where he’s held without bond.
BPD has not located the motorcycle.
