Police seek suspects who tried to solicit sex from 13-year-old

Police are seeking two men in a white Chevrolet Astro van after they allegedly solicited sex from a 13-year-old girl.

The teenager and her parents called police at about 4 p.m. Thursday to report the incident. Earlier that afternoon the teenager had been walking home from Tri-North Middle School, Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Dana Cole said. Near the railroad overpass on North Adams Street, the van, with one man driving and another in the passenger seat, stopped near her.

One of the men asked her if she wanted to hang out, she told police. She ignored him and kept walking. When she didn’t answer, the men asked if she wanted to give them oral sex, Cole said. When she said no, they asked something to the effect of, “Why not? It’s a college town.”

The teenager told police she didn’t get a good look at the men, but she described them both as college-aged white men. The driver had a beard.

She also noted the van’s license plate number, Cole said. Police found the plates matched a Chevrolet Astro registered to a 33-year-old Indianapolis man. They cross-referenced the name with the IU Police Department, which did not match any students.

Police searched for the van but could not locate it. The investigation is still active.
