Police arrested a teenage boy Saturday after he allegedly raped an acquaintance.
The 16-year-old, whose name has not been released because he is a juvenile, is charged with rape.
The victim, a 19-year-old woman, reported the rape Friday, Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Pam Gladish said. She and the suspect had been at an acquaintance’s house where several other people were hanging out. At some point during the night, she turned on a movie, and most of the other people went to a different part of the house.
The 16-year-old asked if he could stay and watch the movie, the victim told police. They watched from a bed, her under the covers and him on top of the covers. She became tired and fell asleep.
Some time after she fell asleep, she said, she woke up and he began kissing her neck, she said. He then began sexually assaulting her. She told him to stop several times and told him to leave the house, she said, to which he said no.
After telling him to leave several more times, he eventually did, she told police. As he left the room, he laughed at her.
She fell asleep again. In the morning, she told family members what happened, and they suggested she report the rape to police.
Police also interviewed the teenager, who confessed to the rape. He said she had been awake when he began rubbing her and kissing her neck, and after some time she said, “What are you doing?” She said no to sexual intercourse, he told police, but he had sex with her anyway. He said he stopped when he remembered she’d said no.
Police also reviewed text messages between the victim and suspect after the incident, Gladish said. In the messages, the suspect referenced the rape.
“No, I told you no,” the victim said in one message, as relayed by Gladish.
“I’m sorry,” the suspect said. “I hope you’re not mad at me.”
