The Bloomington Police Department has added a temporary extra patrol to an area south of campus after a woman reported being harassed by a strange man on her way to class.
The woman, 22, reported Tuesday she had been walking from the 600 block of East University Street to campus just before 9 a.m. that morning, BPD Sgt. Dana Cole said. Near the intersection of East Second Street and South Park Avenue, a southbound car crossed lanes and pulled up next to her.
The woman told police the driver told her to get in the car, that she was good-looking and that she shouldn’t have to walk. She picked up her pace and kept walking north, and the car continued south.
She described the driver as a white man in his early 50s with graying hair and a black hoodie. The car was a red four-door, though she did not know the make or model.
The case is inactive, but Cole said it’s standard procedure to add an extra patrol in the area of such harassment reports because harassers sometimes escalate to criminal action.
