Two people were arrested and others may face charges after what police say was an attempted robbery relating to heroin.
Sarah Robb, 21, and Jonathan Stacy, 39, of Bloomfield, Indiana, both face felony robbery charges. They were part of a six-person group that allegedly vandalized a car during the planned — and possibly armed — attempted robbery of two acquaintances.
Police were dispatched at about 12:11 a.m. Friday to Ninth Street Park in response to a complaint of arguing, yelling and a possible gunshot, Bloomington Police Department Capt. Steve Kellams said. Arriving officers noticed several people yelling at each other, as well as a blue Mercury SUV and a damaged red Honda passenger car parked by the park.
Someone inside the SUV yelled that someone else had a gun, and officers took everyone into custody for safety.
Preliminary reports suggest the parties had met at the park for one to collect money owed by the other, Kellams said. The victims who arrived in the Honda told police they were owed money by one of the people they met at the park, and one of the six suspects who arrived in the Mercury said they were owed money by the two in the Honda.
Regardless of who owed whom, police determined Robb and Stacy, part of the Mercury group, had conspired to rob the pair in the Honda and to damage the car.
When the people met at the park, the group of six allegedly attacked a man who had gotten out of the Honda. During the scuffle, a woman from the SUV group suffered a nose injury and was treated and released from the hospital. No other injuries were listed in preliminary reports, Kellams said.
The group then took to the Honda and broke its windshield, headlights and taillights, flattened all four of its tires and ripped off its windshield wipers, Kellams said.
The victims said one man brandished a gun before fleeing. Kellams said police apprehended a suspect, though information on his arrest was not available at press time.
The investigation, which is still ongoing, revealed the parties knew each other through heroin-related activity, Kellams said.
