More than a month after his roommate was arrested for his part in several February burglaries, a Bloomington man wanted on a warrant was arrested on similar charges Tuesday after turning himself in.
Jaylin Rhodes, 19, is charged with two felony counts of burglary, one felony count of theft and one misdemeanor count of theft. Rhodes's roommate, Thomas Hursey, was charged last month with several counts of burglary and theft after a string of break-ins, including several at the Varsity Villas apartments where they both lived.
Rhodes's arrest stems from a Feb. 12 burglary on the 200 block of East 20th Street, Bloomington Police Department Department Lt. John Kovach said. Residents of the house told police a television, laptop, Xbox controller, iPhone 5 and wallet had been stolen.
At some point after the burglary, someone logged on to the laptop, Kovach said. Police traced the IP address to the East Varsity Lane apartment and on March 2 served a search warrant that resulted in Hursey's arrest. Stolen items were found and returned to the owners.
Police issued an arrest warrant for Rhodes, who was not home when Hursey was arrested. He turned himself in Tuesday afternoon, more than a month after the warrant for his arrest was issued, and was taken to Monroe County Correctional Center.
