IU junior midfielder Cory Thomas was named to College Soccer News’ team of the week, as announced Monday.
Thomas scored IU’s opening goal in its 2-1 NCAA Tournament Round of 16 win over the New Hampshire Wildcats on Saturday night at Bill Armstrong Stadium. IU junior midfielder Rece Buckmaster sent a ball into the box, and Thomas was able to head it into the back of the net.
This is the second time in 2017 that he has been named to College Soccer News’ team of the week. The first time was Sept. 25 after scoring two goals in IU’s 5-0 romp over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
The Corydon, Indiana, native has been an integral part of IU’s offensive attack. The redshirt-junior has scored seven goals and added three assists. Thomas is second on the IU team in goals scored.
With the help of Thomas’ opening goal versus New Hampshire, the Hoosiers advanced to the Round of Eight in the NCAA Tournament and will face the Michigan State Spartans at 7 p.m. Friday in Bloomington.
