A man living on Ruby Lane reported waking up around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday and seeing an unknown white male in his home.
The man, who lives with his wife and children, said the individual could have entered through a sliding backdoor that may have been left unlocked. No signs of forced entry were reported.
The homeowner described the man as between the age of 45 and 50, having a pale complexion and unshaven. He was wearing dark jeans, a black jacket, rain boots, a black beanie. He said the suspect smelled strongly of alcohol and cigarettes.
The suspect fled the scene and the homeowner said he chased the intruder down the street before losing sight of him.
It is unclear whether anything was taken from the home, but the suspect left behind a red Adidas bag containing an unidentified hand tool, a 9-volt battery pack, AAA batteries and loose change.
A chisel was also located in the street the individual was chased down. Police said it was likely dropped as the suspect fled.
Civilians who have seen or heard anything suspicious are encouraged to contact the Bloomington Police Department.
