Bloomington Blotter: One stolen vehicle and two fake bills

Vehicle theft

A blue 2007 Kia Sorento was stolen this weekend from an apartment on West Second Street.

The car’s 29-year-old owner told police he left his apartment on foot around 8:30 p.m. Friday and returned around 1:30 p.m. Saturday  to find the car missing.

There were identification documents, clothing, a computer and a cellphone in the car when it went missing, the owner reported.

He told officers he is unsure whether the car was locked when he left Friday.

Counterfeiting

Two fake $50 bills were discovered at the Kroger on South Liberty Drive on Friday.

The bills were used to make two separate purchases, Kroger employees told police. They were not determined to be fake until later.

Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Cody Forston said the bills looked like they were genuine smaller bills that had been washed and reprinted as $50 bills.

This is the third counterfeiting incident involving fake $50 bills since IU’s spring break. There was a string of incidents involving fake $100 bills before break.
