IU employees located counterfeit $20 bills used at softball and baseball games on campus over the weekend.
The bills were used at the concession stands at Andy Mohr Field and Bart Kaufman Field sometime between Friday and Sunday. The fake bills were also found at the Bart Kaufman ticketing office.
IU Police Department Capt. Craig Munroe said counterfeiting detection markers did not indicate an issue with the bills, but the machine counting them later, before they were sent to the bank, found they were fake.
He said it was unclear how many counterfeit bills were recovered, but there was at least one fraudulent $20 at each of the three locations.
The issue is being treated as three separate cases, Munroe said, and IUPD will continue to investigate where the bills came from.
