Junior Jake Brown has been the number-one golfer for IU men’s golf nearly every tournament this season.
Brown had two top-10 finishes in the fall and has the best average round score on the team.
He continued his excellence at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate this weekend when he finished as a runner-up, matching his best finish of the season.
Brown shot a one-under-par to finish three strokes back of first.
His fourth career top-five finish was highlighted on the 18th hole during the final round when he converted on his first hole-in-one.
That eagle came as part of a final round score of 72, one-over-par. Brown’s strongest round came in the second when he shot five-under-par.
The team as a whole finished in seventh place, marking IU’s fifth top-10 finish this season and the second consecutive seventh-place finish.
IU’s best team round came in the final round when the Hoosiers shot seven-over-par and moved up from a tie in ninth.
Sophomore Brock Ochsenreiter shot a final round score of 70, one-under-par, to propel himself to a tied 12th-place finish.
After finishing second at the Bighorn Invitational two weeks ago, this finish marked Ochsenreiter’s fourth top-20 finish this season.
Senior Brendon Doyle, along with Brown and Ochsenreiter, is a lock to be among the five golfers that IU will send to the Big Ten Championships. However, he finished in a tie for 63rd.
The remaining two spots are yet to be claimed as the team prepares for its final tournament — the Boilermaker Invitational — before Big Ten play.
