Monroe County voters can get to the polls Tuesday simply by requesting a ride.
The Monroe County Democratic Party will provide rides to the polls on primary election day, May 8. The rides will be available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The effort is to make voting accessible to all local residents, according to a Monroe County Democratic Party press release.
Mark Fraley, Monroe County Democratic Party Chair, said they will have about eight or nine people giving rides to polling locations at various times throughout the day.
Fraley said when residents call, volunteers will look up each resident’s specific polling place based on their first and last name, address and where the caller is registered to vote. They will then drive voters to that specific spot.
Fraley said he encourages people to call in advance to give drivers time to get to everyone.
“As soon as you give us the information, if you can do it at 9 a.m. and you want to go at around 3, you can set it up at that specific time,” Fraley said. “Or you call us at 3 p.m. We’ll get out there as soon as we possibly can.”
