Man arrested on charges of attempted murder

Police identify victim in a related, fatal stabbing.

The Bloomington Police Department has arrested a man on charges of attempted murder following a fight early Monday morning in the 2400 block of West Third Street. 

Police identified the suspect, 30-year-old Pedro Jeronimo-Arriaga, and he was taken into custody by police at his place of employment around 3:30 p.m. Monday.

According to a BPD news release Monday, officers responded to a 911 call about the fight at 2:46 a.m. Monday. After responding at the scene, officers located a stabbing victim in the 500 block of Basswood Drive.

After being transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital in critical condition, the victim's condition has been upgraded to stable. 

Arriaga was arrested in connection with this stabbing.

According to a report in the Herald-Times, Arriaga is being held without bond at the Monroe County Jail, and is expected to appear in court Friday for an initial hearing. 

According to a BPD news release Tuesday, Arriaga's statements were inconsistent with the ongoing investigation.

On Tuesday, police also identified the victim of a related, fatal stabbing.

After arriving at the scene of the fight, officers found 23-year-old Victor Morales Acosta suffering from multiple stab wounds, according to a BPD news release Monday. He was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said Acosta's death is still under investigation.
