For the first time since its unveiling July 10, the Bloomington Police Department's armored truck, a Lenco BearCat, was deployed July 23.
According to an Indiana Public Media article, the Monroe County Sheriff's Department said the truck was deployed during a welfare check call that ended in a suicide. The Critical Incident Response Team received a call for assistance from the sheriff's department after what sounded like a gunshot was heard from inside a home on South Smith Road, per the article.
Only Bloomington's Critical Incident Response Team has access to the armored truck.
The truck was used primarily to ensure the safety of a negotiator, who was trying to communicate with an armed man, according to the sheriff's department.
Police said the man died from suicide, according to the article.
