IU's Gutman and Muse receive preseason All-American honors

Then-junior defender Andrew Gutman kicks the ball against Ohio State on Oct. 15 at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Gutman was named a preseason First Team All-American on Monday.

Top Drawer Soccer released preseason All-American honors on Monday and senior defender Andrew Gutman and sophomore goalkeeper Trey Muse were the two Hoosiers to make the list.

Gutman, who is on the watch list for the MAC Hermann Trophy this year, was named to the First-Team Best XI after netting seven goals and helping IU have one of the best defenses all season in 2017. In addition to the All-American honors, Gutman was named the No. 2 player in the nation and No. 1 player in the Big Ten.

As for Muse, he was named to the Third-Team Best XI. His .903 save percentage and 18 shutouts are just two of many stats Muse finished with last season to make it one of the most successful seasons for a goalkeeper in history. He was also named the No. 33-ranked player in the country and No. 5-ranked player in the Big Ten.

Other Hoosiers who made the preseason player rankings were senior midfielder Francesco Moore — No. 35 in the country and No. 6 in the conference — and sophomore midfielder Griffin Dorsey — No. 57 in the nation and No. 10 in the Big Ten.

After finishing up exhibition play last week, the No. 2-ranked Hoosiers begin their season in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, as they play No. 5-ranked Wake Forest at 7:30 p.m.
