On Sunday afternoon, IU softball showed flashes of the potential they have in year two under Coach Shonda Stanton.
The Hoosiers took on Louisville in a doubleheader that marked the second and third game of the fall season.
IU lost 9-1 in game one but won the second game by the same score.
In the first game, Louisville went up 4-0 in the second inning. Then, IU sophomore outfielder Taylor Lambert scored a run in the third inning. The Cardinals put up five unanswered runs after the first IU score to take the victory. Lambert had a pair of hits, and junior catcher Bella Norton went 3-3.
In game two, IU did almost exactly what Louisville did in the game prior.
The Hoosiers went up 4-0 in the second inning before Norton and sophomore infielder Annika Baez each had a home run in the fifth inning to make it a 7-1 advantage. IU added two more runs in the sixth inning.
Baez went 2-4 with three RBI and a run. Junior infielder Katie Lacefield, sophomore catcher Maddie Westmoreland and sophomore utility player Camryn Woodall each also had a multi-hit performance.
Freshmen pitchers Natalie Foor and Taylor Askland each saw action in the victory while Foor picked up the win.
The Hoosiers will return to fall play Friday against the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville. IU will also face Evansville on Saturday in a doubleheader.
