A woman was struck by a car and killed Saturday evening outside IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Police said Sandra Hough, 63, was hit on a through-street just across from the hospital’s emergency department.
The 22-year-old driver of the 2010 Chevy Equinox that struck her told officers she didn’t feel the car shudder when she backed into Hough, but she heard a noise that made her stop.
At the time of the incident, the driver was headed to give a phone charger to her boyfriend, another hospital employee.
When she realized she hit someone, she told officers she yelled for help. Hough was quickly taken into the emergency room.
The woman told officers the car was not on top of Hough, but it knocked her to the ground. Detectives did not find any blood on the car or any damage to it.
Hough suffered broken ribs, a fractured pelvis, a broken sternum and a large gash on the side of her head, according to police.
She died in the ER before she could be airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital.
Her autopsy took place Monday in Terre Haute, Indiana.
The driver in the incident does not currently face any criminal charges. Police said she passed a sobriety test and submitted to a blood test.
