An attorney for Trinity Episcopal Church contacted police Friday to file a report regarding a man who said he was touched inappropriately by a reverend of the church in 1977.
The reverend in question died in 2014. Police declined to release his name.
Bloomington Police Department Sgt. George Connolly said the attorney probably thought he was required by law to file the report, but he wasn’t.
The statute of limitations on the alleged crime expired, so no report was necessary.
No criminal charges can be pressed, but a civil case could be filed.
Connolly said police were unable to contact the apparent victim, who is now in his mid-50s and does not live in Bloomington.
