A Monroe County deputy prosecutor has been appointed to former Judge Kenneth Todd’s seat on the Monroe County Circuit Court after he resigned in October, according to a press release from Gov. Eric Holcomb’s office.
Judith Corcoran Benckart will finish the rest of Todd’s term, serving through 2020. That seat will be up for election in November 2020. She was one of 10 applicants for the position, according to the Herald-Times.
Benckart is a deputy prosecuting attorney in Monroe County handling misdemeanor cases.
She has previously worked for Indiana’s Public Service Commission, the Indiana Department of Revenue and in private practice at Jones, McGlasson and Benckart in Bloomington.
Benckart graduated from Ball State University and then attended IU McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis.
A date has not yet been set for Benckart to be sworn in as judge.
