Groove rock band Aqueous never performs the same set list twice.
The members say they like to adapt to the mood of an audience and will sometimes change up what they're playing in the middle of a show.
Concrete plan or not, the band will perform at 9 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Bluebird Nightclub.
The band is made up of guitarist and vocalist Mike Gantzer; guitarist, pianist and vocalist Dave Loss; bassist Evan McPhaden; and drummer Rob Houk.
These four artists will perform a soon-to-be-developed set list comprised of songs from their entire repertoire, including their most recent album “Color Wheel.” Houk was unable to reveal the complete set list because he doesn’t know exactly what the show will look like yet.
“Every single night we play a completely different set,” said Houk.
The type of show and songs performed is determined by the specific audience and what they respond to.
“It keeps it interesting for the fans and it keeps it interesting for us,” Houk said.
Although the band is lumped into the category of “jam bands” or bands whose performances often feature long improvisational pieces, it takes pride in its writing in addition to its ability to judge the vibe of a crowd.
“We really like to have the ability to do both,” Houk said. “We are a groove rock band with improvisational tendencies and pop sensibilities.”
The show on Thursday, Feb. 7 will be the kick off of a tour stretching from Indiana to California over the course of three months.
“We are real excited to be out again and make music for the people,” Houk said.
The band will be accompanied on the tour by the alternative rock band Big Something, who will open for Aqueous at the Bloomington show. The two groups will alternate the headlining position for all following performances.
Doors for the event open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 before the show and $15 at the door.
