After an 8-0 record at this past weekend's Indiana Winter Invitational, senior Madison Appel received Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week Tuesday afternoon.
The senior was paired with sophomore Jelly Bozovic on the doubles court, where they went a perfect 6-0 on the weekend.
In her singles matches, Appel dominated against the invitational's competition. On Saturday she handled Wichita State junior Esther Thebault, winning 6-0, 6-4. The next day, she limited Marquette sophomore Natalija Popovic to just two games in a 6-0, 6-2 win for Appel.
Appel is coming off a junior campaign where she went 25-10 on the singles court and 19-9 at doubles, splitting time with then-junior Natalie Whalen and then-freshman Michelle McKamey.
In the season's first Oracle/ITA Division I Women’s Rankings for individual D-1 athletes, Appel cracked the top 100 for the first time, coming it at No. 97.
IU matches up with Xavier University and University of Cincinnati at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Jan. 26 at the IU Tennis Center.
