The IU men’s tennis team fell to 4-4 on the season following losses to the University of Central Florida and Arizona State University this weekend in Bloomington.
The team opened its home stand with a tight, 4-3 loss to UCF Friday night. The Hoosiers earned victories in No. 2, 4 and 5 singles.
Sunday afternoon, IU fell for the second time in three days, this time to Arizona State, 4-2.
Wins against the Sun Devils came by way of senior Antonio Cembellin at No. 1 singles and freshman Carson Haskins at No. 5 singles.
Cembellin defeated ASU junior Nathan Ponwith 6-2, 7-6 (11-9). Ponwith, a transfer from the University of Georgia and the No. 65 ranked player in the country, was the No. 2 recruit in tennisrecruiting.net’s 2016 class rankings.
The Hoosiers next contest is at 7 p.m. Saturday night against Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
