IU jazz piano professor Luke Gillespie will be performing music from his new CD “Moving Mists” at 5:30 p.m. March 28 at Bear’s Place.
The event will be a CD release concert for Gillespie. “Moving Mists,” Gillespie’s fourth album, will feature four of his original jazz compositions in addition to his own arrangements of classic jazz songs by John Coltrane, Rodgers and Hammerstein and others.
Gillespie will be joined by fellow jazz faculty members Pat Harbison and John Raymond on trumpet, Tom Walsh and Walter Smith on saxophone, Wayne Wallace on trombone, Jeremy Allen on bass, Rachel Caswell on vocals and Steve Houghton on drums. Matt Allen will also play guitar. All the artists playing with Gillespie are also featured on the CD.
An IU alumnus, Gillespie’s jazz piano performances have been awarded by the Indianapolis Star and the 1994 Indianapolis Jazz Festival Competition. He has performed on tour in Europe and Asia, and in 2003 he released his debut CD “Footprints.” Following that, Gillespie released “Live at the Station” in 2010 and “Third Base Line” in 2011.
Cover for the event will cost $9 for general admission and $7 for students.
