Mdou Moctar, a solo artist from Niger known for pushing the Tuareg guitar style of music, will play at 9:30 p.m. April 3 at The Bishop.

The Tuareg guitar style is named for an ethnic group originating in areas including southwestern Libya, Algeria, Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso.

Moctar is promoting his album “Ilana” with a tour of the United States. The album features tracks such as “Tarhatazed,” “Tumastin” and the album’s title track, “Ilana.” This is Moctar’s fourth album since his debut in 2008.

Moctar began recording his first album in Nigeria in 2008, which was released on the compilation “Music from Saharan Cellphones.”

The singer-songwriter also produced and starred in the Tuareg-language film “Rain the Color Blue with a Little Red in it,” a remake of Prince’s “Purple Rain.”

Tickets are available online for $15.
