On Wednesday night, many IU men's basketball fans got a glimpse on national television of the talent entering the program next season.
The night before, more than 10,000 people were inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall to watch the 2018-19 IU men’s basketball season come to an end in the NIT quarterfinals.
Forward Trayce Jackson-Davis, an incoming player this fall for the Hoosiers and a current senior at Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Indiana, was part of the East team playing the West team in the McDonald’s All-American Game.
The annual all-star game is open to top high school basketball players from around the United States and Canada. The event features both a boys game and a girls game.
The 2019 edition took place at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, with the East team defeating the West squad 115-100.
Jackson-Davis played a team-low 14 minutes for the East, making three of his four shot attempts along with converting one of his two free throws to finish with seven points. He also gathered five rebounds, including the second-most offensive rebounds on the East team with three.
Jackson-Davis was one of five players on the East team to register a block, but his highlight-reel moment came with six minutes remaining as he received a pass from future University of Georgia guard Anthony Edwards before throwing down a two-hand dunk.
Jackson-Davis is currently joined by guard Armaan Franklin from Cathedral High School in Indianapolis as the only two Hoosiers who have signed a National Letter of Intent to join the program via scholarship next season.
Earlier this week, forward Nathan Childress from Zionsville Community High School in Zionsville, Indiana, accepted a preferred walk-on spot with IU. This means Childress is guaranteed a roster spot with the Hoosiers, but he won’t receive an athletic scholarship like Franklin or Jackson-Davis.
