A 19-year-old man was arrested Sunday after being caught stealing from a home two days in a row and then hurting people while escaping, Bloomington Police Department Lt. John Kovach said.
When a 36-year-old man, 40-year-old female and her 7-year-old daughter returned to their South Odell Drive apartment around noon Sunday, they discovered the door open and found Blaine Webster digging through a bag of clothing.
The 36-year-old told police he and Webster fought before Webster ran out the front door.
The 40-year-old and her daughter were coming inside at the same time, and Webster pushed past them, knocking the 7-year-old down while running away.
Police found Webster behind a nearby nursing home, and the residents identified him.
This was the second day in a row items had been stolen from that apartment, police said.
The day before, four pairs of Air Jordan shoes amounting to $500, a $500 TV, a $20 duffel bag and some checks were stolen and had been reported to police.
Around 9 p.m. Sunday, a woman who identified herself as Webster’s girlfriend called police.
She, Webster and a friend live in an apartment nearby, and she told police things were missing from her home.
Webster’s girlfriend reported a PlayStation valued at $200, five video games amounting to $84, a $300 yellow gold diamond necklace and $82 cash missing, Kovach said.
She also said items she believed to be stolen were inside her apartment. Police found a pair of boots, a small knife, a wooden box, three pairs of Air Jordan shoes and a TV.
The shoes and TV matched the description of the stolen items from the original apartment, and police returned them.
Webster was arrested on the charges of burglary resulting in bodily injury, battery resulting in bodily injury of person under 14 and battery resulting in bodily injury, according to court documents.
