The IU men’s golf team will be in Iowa City, Iowa, this weekend for the Hawkeye Invitational on the Finkbine Golf Course.
The team will field the usual suspects for team play, as well as a player who impressed at last week’s event. IU Head Coach Mike Mayer did not opt to bring any players to compete as individuals to this event.
Junior Brock Ochsenreiter will start at the top spot, followed by sophomore Ethan Shepherd at the second spot. Ochsenreiter finished the highest of those in team play at the Boilermaker Invitational last week, while Shepherd was the lowest for the team.
Senior Jake Brown will take the third spot for the Hoosiers, while freshman Mitch Davis is welcomed back into team play this weekend at the fourth spot. Davis competed as an individual last weekend and placed tied for 12th after the tournament was cut off due to weather conditions. Davis knocked fellow freshman Harry Reynolds from the rotation. Reynolds had been in the last two team lineups for IU.
Rounding out the team is junior Evan Gaesser. This is Gaesser’s third straight start for the Hoosiers.
No. 42 Iowa, No. 33 Kansas University and No. 30 Illinois are the only top-50 ranked teams at the event. Other Big Ten teams are Minnesota, Nebraska and Wisconsin.
Rounding out the rest of the 13-team field is DePaul University, Eastern Michigan University, Kansas State University, Oral Roberts University, South Dakota State University and University of Missouri-Kansas City.
