City of Bloomington organizes Summer Kickoff Celebration

The Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department and Bryan Park Pool will have a Summer Kickoff Celebration 5 p.m. Friday at Bryan Park.  

A new program, “Passport to Play,” will be introduced during the celebration. The purpose of the program is to encourage children to have more outdoor experiences and stay active.

Children can pick up a passport at the “Passport to Play” table at the celebration  and use their passport to redeem prizes such as wristbands, water bottles and T-shirts, according to a Parks and Recreation department Facebook post.

A representative from the Monroe County Public Library will present the Book Bike, which is an electric and recumbent tricycle that brings books, services and programming to the community, according to the library’s website.

Children under 14 can play in Bryan Park Pool from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for free if they are accompanied by a parent. There will also be Storysinging dance music by Kid Kazooey and the Ballroom Roustabouts at 5:30 p.m. and live music by Cari Ray and the Shaky Legs at 7:15 p.m.
