IU field hockey has its first scrimmage of the 2019 season Aug. 23 against Ball State University.
The season will officially start for IU against the same team it played to begin 2018 at the University of Louisville on Aug. 30.
Last year Louisville was ranked eighth in the nation and beat IU 2-1.
The Hoosiers finished the season 4-13 overall.
IU will have to face two other foes that were nationally ranked in the top 10 last season as well.
Maryland, No. 2, beat IU last year 4-0, and Michigan, No. 6, defeated IU 6-1 last season. The Hoosiers will play the Wolverines on Sept. 27 at home and the Terrapins Oct. 13 on the road.
Northwestern, Rutgers, Iowa and Ohio State were all ranked in the top 25 last season as well, and IU failed to pick wins against either of the four.
There will be eight Big Ten games this season as there were last season. The Hoosiers will be looking to build upon their previous conference record of 1-7.
IU’s four wins last year came against Ball State, Saint Louis University, Saint Francis University and Michigan State.
Although IU won against Michigan State in the regular season, the Spartans were victorious in overtime during the Big Ten Tournament with a score of 3-2.
The rest of the nonconference slate for IU includes Drexel University, Miami University of Ohio, Ball State, Saint Francis, Fairfield University, Kent State University, Ohio University and Central Michigan University.
IU's home opener will be Sept. 1 against Drexel.
