Following his game-winning, double overtime goal against the University of California at Los Angeles, the Big Ten announced Wednesday that IU sophomore defender Jack Maher earned the conference Defensive Player of the Week award.
The No. 2 ranked IU men’s soccer went 2-0 at the Adidas/IU Credit Union classic this past weekend with a pair of double overtime wins against the University of Pittsburgh on Aug. 30 and UCLA on Sept. 2.
Maher was tabbed as the Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the classic for his contributions to IU’s victories.
He helped shut down Pittsburgh’s offense during the second half of the game, giving IU the opportunity to come back from a 2-0 deficit. His Monday goal against UCLA was the first of his collegiate career and gave IU some momentum heading into this weekend.
The Hoosiers will travel to South Bend, Indiana for the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament. They will face the University of Denver on Friday and Seattle University on Sunday.
