A 15-year-old girl reportedly sprayed a boy with pepper spray Wednesday afternoon on their school bus.
Bloomington Police Department Capt. Ryan Pedigo said officers responded around 3:25 p.m. to the incident at South Spicewood Lane and East Hemlock Circle. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the boy and the girl standing outside a Monroe County Community School Corporation bus. The boy was attempting to flush the pepper spray out of his eyes.
The girl initially told police the spraying was an accident, Pedigo said. She then reportedly admitted she had found the pepper spray in an undisclosed location. Pedigo said she brought it on the bus with her and was passing it back and forth with a friend.
Pedigo said the boy, whose age is unknown, was sitting in the seat in front of the girl and her friend. When he turned around in his seat, the girl’s friend reportedly encouraged her to spray the boy, which she did.
No other students were reported to have been affected by the spray, and there was no reported damage to the bus.
An ambulance was called to help the boy flush out his eyes, but he was not taken to the hospital. Pedigo said the boy's mother told police she did not want to press charges against the girl.
