IUPD issues alert after two victims report being raped by people they met on Tinder

IU Police Department issued a crime alert Wednesday night after two victims disclosed this week they were raped and assaulted in the fall semester of 2018.

According to the alert, both victims met their attackers on Tinder. There are two separate suspects, and IUPD is aware of their identities.

The victims told police they were temporarily strangled and forced to engage in nonconsensual sexual acts in on-campus housing facilities.

IUPD Capt. Craig Munroe said the alert combined the two instances because the crimes were similar and both reported within the last two days.

“It seemed like a trend, and we thought people should be aware of what’s going on,” Munroe said.

The investigations are active.
