IUPD was dispatched to an area of the Jordan River just west of the Indiana Memorial Union on Thursday afternoon in response to a 9-year-old unconscious male.
Officers immediately started CPR on the male until EMTs arrived a few minutes later, IUPD Captain Shannon Bunger said.
IU Spokesperson Chuck Carney said the child was revived with a defibrillator on site and EMTs found a pulse.
Around 2:45 he was taken to the hospital.
Bunger said officers don’t know the cause of the injury at this time.
A large area near the Jordan River from behind the Student Building to the Indiana Memorial Union is still blocked off with police tape.
Carney said the water in the river is safe.
