19-year-old IU student arrested on charges of underage drinking, battery at Nick’s English Hut

An underage IU-Bloomington student allegedly became intoxicated and violent at Nick’s English Hut, leading him to bite an employee and hit another employee, causing them to fall down a flight of stairs.

Bloomington Police Department arrested 19-year-old Michael P. Oliver at 2:30 a.m. Sunday on charges of battery, resisting law enforcement, public intoxication and minor in possession of alcohol.

BPD Capt. Ryan Pedigo said officers responded to a fight in progress at 12:41 a.m. Sunday at Nick’s English Hut. He said Nick’s employees told a man to leave after he was found in a restricted area.

Pedigo said Oliver then became physically violent. He said employees put him in a headlock and then Oliver bit a Nick’s employee on the hand, leaving a bleeding laceration.

Oliver swung his arms, struck another employee and caused him to fall down a flight of stairs, Pedigo said.

When officers arrived, the employees had Oliver pinned to the ground. Pedigo said the officer tried to handcuff him but he pushed him away and tried to fight the officer on the ground.
