Pencil swastika graffiti found in private parking garage downtown

A pencil drawing of a swastika was found Saturday afternoon on the wall of a private parking garage for CitySide by Alexa Apartments on South Washington Street.

Bloomington Police Department Capt. Ryan Pedigo said a woman reported the swastika at 12:44 p.m. Sunday after she found it at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

The woman who found the swastika by her assigned parking spot told police she felt the graffiti was targeted, Pedigo said. He said the woman is a Jewish African American.

Pedigo said the swastika was 3 inches by 5 inches. The parking garage where it was drawn required an electronic fob to enter.

Pedigo said BPD will contact management to request surveillance footage of the parking garage.
