Man arrested for breaking into La Una Cantina, allegedly stealing alcohol

A man allegedly shattered a front window of La Una Cantina around 10:25 p.m. Friday and stole bottles of rum and tequila from the restaurant, according to a Saturday email from Bloomington Police Department Capt. Ryan Pedigo.

The 54-year-old man James Starr, who is experiencing homelessness, was arrested and charged with burglary and criminal mischief, Pedigo said in the email. Police observed Starr was extremely intoxicated.

Another man told police he saw Starr stumbling around outside the restaurant and later heard a loud crash. He later saw Starr standing in broken glass and walking away from the scene.

Police searched the area and located Starr, who matched the witness's description, according to the email. Starr was carrying bottles of rum and tequila.

The manager of La Una Cantina went to the scene Friday night and confirmed the two bottles of alcohol were missing, Pedigo said in the email.

Starr was taken to the hospital because of his intoxication, and then he was booked into the Monroe County Correctional Center.
