IU has been conducting an investigation into Kelley School of Business Professor Eric Rasmusen since last fall, IU spokesperson Chuck Carney said Wednesday.

Rasmusen is on unpaid leave for this academic year, Carney said, but could not go into detail about the reason for the leave, citing it being a personnel issue.

Rasmusen received a lot of backlash last November when he tweeted a line from an article saying men are more likely to be geniuses than women. Carney said the university’s investigation into Rasmusen began after the community’s reaction to this tweet.

Some of Rasmusen’s recent tweets have received backlash as well. On Aug. 22 he tweeted about female students at Purdue, saying “Those girls are really showing off their legs!” He tweeted on Aug. 23, “If a boy sits alone, it’s not going to get him any girls, though in some places it would attract homosexual men.”

He tweeted on Aug. 26 a report that says George Floyd, a man who was killed by police officers in May, overdosed on the drug fentanyl.

This story was updated at 11:22 Aug. 26 to include a more recent tweet.
