Black Voices: 'Little Brown Boys Taking Over,' a poem by RJ Crawford

Black Boy.png

Little brown boy,

Gonna get big one day

Gonna touch the sky,

cause that’s the limit, right?

Not gonna let anyone tell me what I can’t do,

Because I can do anything I put my mind to.

Ain’t no fear over here,

Cause I’m gonna be great

Like MLK or W.E.B.

It’s my fate.

Won’t let the color of my skin stop me,

It’s my greatest feature.

Not gonna let them put a target on my back

Like I’m somebody’s prey either.

Cause I pray to be armed with words of

Wisdom and peace.

I ain’t gon hide,

I ain’t gon bite my tongue.

When will you see?

Little brown boys taking over.

Gonna make my momma proud,

And buy her that new Range Rover.

I’m unstoppable, I’m undefeated.

And that…

Keeps your blood heated.
