Black Voices: Meet IU's chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants

The authors are the leaders of the National Association of Black Accountants and are writing this to highlight their organization.

Only 5,000 of the 650,000 certified public accountants in the United States today are African American. This key statistic drives the National Association of Black Accountants' mission to uplift more African Americans to pursue business careers.

NABA provides African-Americans and their allies means to connect with one another.

NABA is a membership-based minority organization focused on addressing the racial disparity present in the business world today. Although the primary area of focus is accounting, only about 50% of NABA members throughout the world work in that field.

Whether it is finance, economic consulting, information technology, international business, analytics or entrepreneurship — NABA has something for everyone.

Since its founding in 1969, NABA has made great progress in gaining more representation for African Americans. But, there is still a lot of work to be done.

One of our more pressing issues is supporting our members during their internship and job search in our unfortunate economic conditions.

Our chapter connects our current corporate partners such as AbbVie, Protiviti, Navista and our affiliate companies such as KPMG and PWC through private networking events. During these events, young professionals can connect with recruiters and current professionals in a smaller and intimate setting.

Members of IU’s NABA Chapter also have access to our national network. National conferences and meetings give NABA members the opportunity to talk, laugh and share stories with like-minded professionals.

NABA hopes to invest in its members and encourage members to incorporate their true selves into their professional life. If you are interested in getting involved with NABA as a partner or member, please contact our president, Michael Mosley, at mimosley@iu.edu
