IU student arrested Wednesday on sexual battery charges

IU Police Department arrested a student Wednesday for the charge of sexual battery that occurred late Tuesday night at Read Center, Deputy Chief Shannon Bunger said.

Jacob Leathers, 19, was arrested Wednesday after the survivor gave his name to IUPD, Bunger said. Leathers was interviewed by officers and confessed to sexually assaulting her.

Bunger said the survivor, who is also an IU student, knew Leathers, and they were in the room together before he assaulted her. She reported the incident late Wednesday night and plans on pressing charges against Leathers.
