For the first time in school history, IU women’s basketball has been selected to win the Big Ten by both the coaches and media preseason polls.
The Hoosiers beat out Maryland, Michigan, Northwestern and Ohio State for the top spot in the Big Ten’s preseason rankings for the 2020-21 season.
Meanwhile, senior guard Ali Patberg and junior guard Grace Berger have been selected for the All-Big Ten First Team for the second season in a row.
Patberg and Berger’s selection makes the Hoosiers one of just two schools, Northwestern being the other, with two honorees.
This honor comes after Patberg was named to the Nancy Lieberman preseason watch list for best female point guard in the NCAA Division I on Monday. Last season, Patberg led IU with 15.6 points and 5.3 assists per game.
Berger closely followed behind as the second-leading scorer with 13.1 points per game last season. She held a team high of 1.4 steals per game and averaged 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
