Shelli Yoder has won the uncontested race for Indiana State Senate District 40.

Yoder was the Democratic nominee for the 9th Congressional District in 2016 and served as a Monroe County Councilor from 2013 to 2019. She is also a lecturer at the Kelley School of Business and lives in Bloomington with her husband and three children.

In her victory speech on the Indiana Democratic Party’s Facebook Live watch party, Yoder thanked her family and Monroe County leadership such as County Clerk Nicole Browne. In addition, Yoder mentioned her support for all 25 women running for office in Indiana during this election.

She voiced her support for public education, reproductive rights and climate reform. She ended her message with a look forward while the majority of election results are unclear.

“While the polls may be closed, our work will continue regardless of the outcome,” Yoder said.
