Truck set on fire Wednesday, allegedly from lighting Trump flags

A blue 2007 Nissan Titan truck was set on fire and destroyed Wednesday night, Bloomington Police Department Sgt. Dana Cole said. No one was injured from the fire.

BPD responded to a call around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday on the 200 block of Gordon Pike, where the 66-year-old victim called in to say his truck was lit on fire in his driveway, Cole said.

After talking to Bloomington Fire Department, Cole said investigators believe the fire started in the bed of the victim’s truck and was most likely due to the flags being lit. There are no suspects at this time and detectives have been assigned to investigate.

When officers arrived, the truck was engulfed in flames, the siding of his house was melting and the power lines were damaged, Cole said. The fire resulted in $10,000 worth of damage to the truck and $1,000 damage to the house.

Cole said the victim told BPD he’s been having problems with people harassing him and stealing his property because he hangs Trump and pro-police flags from his truck and front yard.
