Update: 2 fire department employees, 1 Department of Public Works employee test positive for COVID-19

Two City of Bloomington employees tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total count of positive tests to 42, according to a Friday press release from the City of Bloomington.

The two employees who tested positive work at the Bloomington Fire Department and the Department of Public Works’ Street Division.

An additional fire department employee recived a positive test Dec. 12 after experiencing symptoms, according to a Tuesday press release. This marks 11 BFD employees who have tested positive for COVID-19, four of which were reported the week of Dec. 8.

The DPW employee is the second in their division to test positive. Neither employee was a close contact to others who tested positive in their workplace, according to the press release.

The BFD employee began experiencing symptoms Sunday and received a positive test result Monday. They last worked Saturday and is currently on paid leave. No close contacts between co-workers or members of the public were identified, according to the press release. 

The DPW employee started experiencing symptoms Sunday and began isolating at home on paid leave Monday. They received a positive test result Thursday. No close contacts were identified, according to the press release.
