Illinois man arrested for fatal Bloomington hit-and-run

A fatal motor vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of West 17th Street and North Kinser Pike on Saturday, according to a Bloomington Police Department press release.

BPD arrived at the scene at approximately 11:32 p.m. to find two vehicles in the front yard of a home near the intersection. The press release reported a passenger trapped in the driver’s seat of a maroon 1990 Ford Mustang, while the black 1996 Toyota 4Runner was unoccupied.

The driver of the Ford Mustang was transported to the IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where he was identified as an 18-year-old man from Poland, Indiana. According to the BPD press release, the man sustained serious injuries in the collision and later died.

BPD determined the driver who fled the scene was likely 42-year-old Joshua J. Mullins from Dekalb, Illinois. Police could not locate Mullins early Sunday. Mullins was located and taken into custody Sunday afternoon after police received a tip claiming he was at the Wheeler Mission Center for Men in Bloomington.

Mullins was interviewed at the police station and transferred to the Monroe County Correctional Center. He was charged with a Level 4 felony, the third most severe of 6 felony levels, for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
