Keith Klein, WTIU program director and member of the Monroe County Community School Corporation Board of Trustees since 2009, died Monday at age 79, according to Indiana Public Media.
During his life, Klein was an Ivy Tech adjunct professor, WGCL news director, Rotary Club member and a public relations manager at Cook Group Inc. Before he moved to Bloomington, Klein was a correspondent at NBC News Chicago and reported on the 1968 Democratic National Convention.
At the MCCSC Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday, Klein’s name plate was still given a space at the desk where other board members sat. They placed a single flower and his photograph next to his name and microphone.
“The world is a little colder today without his warmth,” MCCSC Board President Cathy Fuentes-Rohwer said. “I learned a lot from him.”
Throughout the meeting, other board members commented on Klein’s work on the board, including how he emceed the lighting of the town square and his connection to the Maker Challenge, where fourth grade students created innovative projects to address an assigned issue.
“Keith, we miss you,” MCCSC board member Martha Street said in her closing remarks. “In the 10 years I have served on the board with Keith here, he has been the most dedicated board member that I have known and I am really sorry that we lost him.”
