IU Police Department officers found a 20-year-old man dead in an Eigenmann Hall dorm room Thursday evening, IUPD Deputy Chief Shannon Bunger said. The man was a resident assistant.
IU spokesperson Chuck Carney said in an email the man was IU junior Joma Leonardo. He was from Indianapolis, Carney said.
Officers were dispatched to the room for a welfare check around 6:40 p.m., Bunger said, and the man appeared to have been deceased for a while when they found him.
IUPD does not know the cause of death, Bunger said, but foul play is not suspected.
Bunger said the man’s family has been notified, and an autopsy was performed at 1 p.m. Friday.
UPDATE: This story has been updated to reflect that Leonardo was a resident assistant. Police misidentified his job title in an interview.
